Trump has a detailed plan.

Project 2025 contains more than 900 pages of detailed plans for unprecedented levels of deportation, nationwide abortion bans, and major setbacks for public health.

He would install Trump loyalists throughout the government.

As detailed in Project 2025, Trump plans to fire tens of thousands of government officials and replace them with his own loyalists so he can do whatever he wants and not be stopped.

If Donald Trump wins in November, he’d completely reshape every level of government to expand his power without any boundaries or accountability.

SCOTUS gave him total immunity.

To make it worse, Trump has been given immunity by the Supreme Court, which would give him unchecked power to do what he wants without consequences.

And he’s already made it clear that he’s ready to take full advantage of it by seeking revenge against his enemies – his political opponents, the media, and “leftists.”

He plans to use the government for his own revenge.

“I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within … We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical-left lunatics … It should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by the National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen.”

–Donald Trump

He would pardon himself and his collaborators.

If Donald Trump returns to the White House, it’s highly likely that he’d direct federal agencies to dismiss the federal criminal cases against him and his cronies.

He also vowed to pardon the violent rioters who stormed the Capitol on January 6.

“Understand what it would mean if Donald Trump were back in the White House with no guardrails, because certainly we know now the court won’t stop him. It’s up to the American people to stop him.”

–Kamala Harris

Donald Trump has worked to bring together an echo chamber of saboteurs on all levels of federal governance. He must be stopped at the ballot box.

It’s up to us to vote for Kamala Harris by November 5.

Sunday night, MoveOn members came together in solidarity with democracy-loving Americans across the nation and against the looming threat of Project 2025.

The stakes have never been higher. The dangerous policies of Project 2025 threaten our freedoms: banning abortion and contraceptives, reversing progress on climate change, slashing Social Security and Medicare, gutting public education, firing civil servants, and more.

If you missed the powerful livestream, don’t worry—you can still catch all the energy from our special guests like activist Mark Ruffalo, Wilmer Valderrama, MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting, and many more:

  • National Director Maurice Mitchell, Working Families Party
  • Drucilla Tigner, Planned Parenthood Texas
  • Claude Cummings Jr., President of the Communications Workers of America
  • James Curbeam, Chairman of the Teamsters National Black Caucus
  • Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream

Watch the full recording this week at MoveOn.org/live to hear more from us and Ruffalo about:

  • How Project 2025 is the consolidation of the authoritarian right, but also how we have defeated Trump and his agenda before and we can do it again.
  • How Project 2025 will impact bodily autonomy, climate, labor, and immigration.
  • Why Ruffalo is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and why he thinks folks should vote for her too.

Ready to take action?

Sign up today to make an impact, because with the polls so close in battleground states, every conversation with a voter counts! MoveOn’s incredible analytics team has found the exact voters we need to talk to, ones who support Harris-Walz but may not vote this year without a nudge from us. Together, we can protect our future and block Project 2025.

In 2022, we used this tactic to turn out more than 50,000 voters. This November, we aim to double that, and we need your help.

Your efforts will directly impact the outcome of this election. We’ll keep you updated on the next two calls in this GOTV rally series, happening on Sundays, so you can stay engaged as we bring this fight to the finish.

Election Day is just around the corner, and vice presidential nominee Senator JD Vance has STILL not released his tax returns, despite continued demands from voters.

Senator Vance is taking a page right out of Donald Trump’s playbook by attempting to hide his conflicts of interest. Just like Senator Vance, Trump promised during the election to release his tax returns—and then he refused, launching years of legal battles before the House of Representatives eventually released their records.

Now, Senator Vance is doing the same thing. During a campaign rally just two years ago, he said, “I have to reveal my tax returns and I’m fine with that. I think that’s an important part of transparency, I’m not gonna complain about it.” Instead of complaining, he’s avoided it altogether, refusing to release a single tax return while his opposing Democratic running mate, Tim Walz, has released 15 years of his tax returns.

This leaves us with one looming question: What’s Vance hiding?

We worked with Rural Organizing to launch a mobile billboard truck during the vice presidential debate to ask Senator Vance that exact question.

Over the course of his relatively short political career, Senator Vance has claimed a “rags-to-riches” story—but there are holes in his story. In his book, Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis, Senator Vance paints the picture of a “culture in crisis” and blames rural communities for the opioid crisis; meanwhile, he failed to disclose his own connections as a lawyer for a lobbying firm hired by Purdue Pharma, the makers of Oxycontin.

Senator Vance wants to trick everyday Americans into thinking he is “self-made,” when in reality his career has been funded by special interests and the wealthy. And his political rise was funded not by grassroots efforts but rather by far-right tech billionaire and 2020 election denier Peter Thiel and dark money.

Billionaire Thiel appears to be responsible for major developments in Senator Vance’s career, including helping him get his first “venture capitalist” job and donating a staggering $15 million—the largest donation ever given for a single Senate candidate—to get him elected to the Senate back in 2022.

What else do we not know about Senator Vance’s financials and potential conflicts of interest?

It’s common for presidential and vice presidential candidates to release their tax returns—Vice President Mike Pence did, Vice President Kamala Harris did, and President Joe Biden did when he was vice president. Senator Vance needs to live up to his word and show us his tax returns, like so many candidates before him have done.

Voters deserve transparency heading into Election Day. We need to keep up the pressure on Senator Vance to release his tax returns NOW! Here are three ways you can take action:

  1. Sign the petition: moveon.org/vance
  2. Help spread the word by sharing posts exposing Senator JD Vance with your friends, family, and neighbors on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
  3. Download, print, and display these posters calling Senator Vance out for not releasing his tax returns.

Vice President Harris is starting to lay out her vision for the economy, and her agenda includes a $6,000 tax credit for parents of newborns

The impact of this could be major—it would lift millions of children out of poverty and provide a needed helping hand to millions of families.

What Is a Tax Credit?

A tax credit is a portion of money that reduces the total taxes owed to the government.

It’s essentially a discount on taxes and can help taxpayers get extra money back on their tax return.

Which Parents Would Qualify for the Support?

Under the policy, parents with a newborn child during the tax year would qualify for a $6,000 tax credit. For example, parents who welcomed a new baby in 2025 would get the benefit for that year.

Harris also plans on building on the success of Democrats’ 2021 child tax credit, which gave a $3,000-$3,600 tax credit for parents who meet income thresholds.

That historic investment instantly cut child poverty to a record low of 5.2%. Under the plan, more than 60 million children benefited as their families received monthly payments. These payments provided major relief, helping cover the costs of expenses like rent, food, and other necessities.

Her proposed tax credit builds on the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan, which made historic investments that instantly cut child poverty to a record low of 5.2%.

Under the plan, more than 60 million children benefited as their families received monthly payments. These payments provided major relief, helping cover the costs of expenses like rent, food, and other necessities.

“$6,000, for the first year of a child’s life … The return on that investment, in terms of what that will do and what it will pay for, will be tremendous. We’ve seen it when we did it in the first year of our administration. It reduced child poverty by over 50%.”Kamala Harris on the potential impact of the expanded CTC

Kamala Harris understands that investing resources into kids and families in need is an investment in our future

Economic assistance programs for families can lead to better educational outcomes, more financial stability, improved mental health, and a stronger economy.

When families don’t have to worry about how they’re going to put food on the table, they can have a better quality of life.

A Harris-Walz administration could help ease economic stress for millions of families and significantly lower child poverty.

Together, we can stand up for families by electing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, true champions for justice who will lead us toward a brighter future for everyone.

In 2016, Volkswagen was caught deceiving customers about the true amount of toxic oxides their cars were emitting. But guess who didn’t let them get away with it?

Kamala Harris.

As attorney general of California, she worked alongside the federal government to prosecute the case. Volkswagen had to pay up a massive $14.7 billion federal settlement, but Harris didn’t stop there. She filed a civil lawsuit against Volkswagen that made them pay an additional $86 million in civil penalties.

As part of the settlements, Volkswagen had to invest millions of dollars in environmental remediation and zero-emissions vehicle development.

The Volkswagen case wasn’t just about the money – it was about justice for the environment.

Kamala Harris proved that no corporation, no matter how big, is above the law. For her, it’s about ensuring that those who harm our planet and deceive the public are held accountable.

During her tenure as attorney general, she took on some of the nation’s biggest polluters responsible for environmental accidents, including the Santa Clara wastewater explosion, a massive methane leak in Aliso Canyon, and a 140,000-gallon oil spill in Santa Barbara

“It’s about having the conviction to take these guys into court and to hold them accountable, and not backing down because of the pressure … I have always felt strongly that the role should be to go after these powerful interests that are creating incredible harm in our communities, and without consequence creating that harm. And let’s get them not only in the pocketbook, but, you know, let’s make sure that there are severe and serious penalties for their behaviors.” – Kamala Harris

In 2011, she made the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach lower their diesel emissions and warn residents about harmful cancer-causing emissions.

In 2010, Harris pushed for accountability in the BP oil spill, joining the lawsuit that resulted in a historic $20.8 billion settlement, which is the largest environmental lawsuit in U.S. history.

Throughout her career, she’s had a zero-tolerance approach for corporations harming the environment and cheating regulations, especially at the cost of public health.

If she is elected as president in November, there’s no question that she’ll continue to be a fearless defender of our environment and our communities.

Ahead of Tuesday’s first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, MoveOn worked with actress and activist Busy Philipps, as well as activists Amanda Zurawski and Kaitlyn Joshua, to urge ABC News debate moderators to ask nuanced and hard-hitting questions concerning the dangerous impacts of state abortion bans

They, along with more than 43,000 MoveOn members, signed a petition wanting to know what Kamala Harris and Donald Trump would say to Americans who believe state abortion bans have gone too far and what role the federal government should play in ensuring people, regardless of ZIP code, have access to reproductive care.

Here are some highlights of how it went during Tuesday’s debate.

ABC News Moderators did ask about abortion—but not our exact questions.

ABC Moderator Linsey Davis confronted Donald Trump on his role in ending Roe v. Wade and his inconsistency when it comes to abortion, stating “Vice President Harris says women shouldn’t trust you on the issue of abortion because you’ve changed your position so many times; therefore, why should they trust you?”

Disturbingly, Donald Trump took the opportunity to spread dangerous lies about abortion and make reckless, conspiratorial comments about killing born babies that were debunked in real time by the moderator.

Then he applauded the “genius, heart, and strength” of the conservative Supreme Court justices who voted in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case against abortion, and he said he did “a great service” undoing the protections of Roe v. Wade.

Trump also refused to give an answer on if he’d veto a national abortion ban, instead deflecting to avoid revealing to voters his extreme stance on abortion. It’s deceptive, but we know where he stands on the issue.

Kamala Harris, in contrast, made it clear that she will fight for abortion rights, stating that as president she would “proudly sign into law” a bill to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade

“I think the American people believe that certain freedoms, in particular the freedom to make decisions about one’s own body, should not be made by the government,” she continued.

Abortion is one of the top issues for voters this election cycle—it deserved more than five minutes during the debate. But five minutes was enough time to make clear the choice that is in front of us:

Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025—a blueprint for a second Trump term that was informed by more than 140 former Trump advisers and that would take us even further backward when it comes to reproductive health and abortion access.

Or Kamala Harris, a champion for reproductive freedom who affirmed on Tuesday that she would continue to fight for abortion and bodily autonomy for all Americans.

Our choice is clear. Abortion is on the ballot this election, and we must elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who will fight to protect and expand our reproductive freedoms!

HOW YOU CAN HELP

When abortion is on the ballot, abortion wins. And MoveOn members across the country are feeling fired up about turning out the vote for abortion and bodily autonomy this November, electing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and defeating Donald Trump at the polls.

Watch and share this video from Busy Philipps, Amanda Zurawski, and Kaitlyn Joshua where they share their abortion and reproductive health stories and what’s at stake.

And then check out and spread the word about MoveOn’s newly launched Our Bodies, Our Vote website, your home base for everything you need to protect your reproductive freedoms this election, including information on how to vote and opportunities to volunteer.

From advocating for affordable health care to being a fearless protector of abortion rights, Vice President Kamala Harris has consistently been on the right side of the issues.

As a senator, she co-sponsored legislation to ban states from imposing restrictions on reproductive rights. She was also the first vice president to visit an abortion clinic

She’s continued to lead an unapologetic campaign to protect abortion rights

She also has a track record of fighting for workers. As a senator, she fought to end discriminatory pay practices and advocated to close the gender pay gap.

As vice president, she led a White House task force designed to protect workers’ rights to unionize.

As a district attorney and prosecutor, she consistently stood up to Big Oil. She even set up an environmental justice unit aimed at holding polluters accountable for targeting poor communities.

In the Senate, she supported bold climate policy. As vice president, she made the tie-breaking vote for the Inflation Reduction Act, which was the largest investment for climate action in history.

Harris has always been an outspoken champion for fair access to quality health care.

As a senator, she made it a priority to advocate for more-affordable health care, with a special focus on improving Black maternal health outcomes.

And this year, she announced a new effort to ban medical debt from credit reports.

She’s also introduced policies to rethink how we approach criminal justice

As a district attorney, she launched a reentry program called “Back on Track” to provide low-level drug defendants with the resources needed to turn their lives around.

In her role as vice president in the Biden administration, she’s been a key part of a number of wins:

  • Downgrading the classification of marijuana
  • Drastically lowering the price of drugs for seniors
  • Creating more than 11 million jobs
  • Canceling more than $7.7 billion in student debt
  • Securing historic legislation for a fairer tax code
  • Increasing federal funding for affordable housing

If elected as president, there’s no question that Kamala Harris will continue to be a progressive champion of justice.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will continue building on these achievements to create a future where everyone has a chance to succeed.

Our 2024 election program, restoring abortion access, protecting LGBTQ+ youth, and more!

A message from Rahna Epting, MoveOn’s Executive Director

It is one of my greatest joys as MoveOn’s executive director to speak to you and your fellow MoveOn members. I am inspired by your commitment to building a better future—one rally, phone call, donation, and petition signature at a time. You have shown, time and again, that you care about your families, communities, and future generations. I am honored to co-create a more just country with you—one where we all can thrive.

I hope that you feel inspired as you read this newsletter. Every accomplishment outlined demonstrates the incredible progress you fuel as one of MoveOn’s most dedicated supporters. Together, we will advance progressive victories in this critical election year and beyond.

Trump is Not Above the Law

MoveOn members have long been on the front lines of holding Donald Trump accountable. In 2017, we protested his executive order banning people from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. We denounced him in 2018 for separating migrant children from their families, in 2020 for his disastrous coronavirus response, and in 2021 for fueling the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

In the last 12 months, more than half a million MoveOn members signed the petition urging secretaries of state, state officials, and Congress to disqualify Trump from holding public office, under the Constitution’s 14th Amendment. After Trump was convicted of 34 felonies in New York, MoveOn members began calling for a fair and just sentence that reflects the seriousness of his crimes. More than 120,000 MoveOn members ordered a sticker reminding voters that no one is above the law in the aftermath of his conviction—coming together to show that Trump must be held accountable and not reelected in November.

Hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members signed petitions demanding trials and verdicts before Election Day. This June, MoveOn ran a full-page ad in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution targeting the Georgia Court of Appeals after continuous delays to Trump’s trial in Georgia to convey MoveOn members’ demand that the courts overseeing Trump’s criminal trials and appeals stop the delays, because voters deserve to know a full accounting of his crimes before Election Day. MoveOn is amplifying our members’ voices through social media and press engagement.

Together, we’re working to keep Trump out of the White House by making sure that voters across the country know that he has been found guilty—and that they learn what’s on his despicable agenda if he wins a second term.

Restoring Abortion Access

MoveOn members are fighting to stop bans and restore access to abortion. Two summers ago, the Trump-packed Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark case protecting abortion rights in the United States. Right-wing antiabortion laws have subsequently been passed in state after state. These efforts to ban abortion and criminalize those who seek and provide it are causing great harm to people across our nation.

MoveOn members urged Congress to vote for the Right to Contraception Act, a bill to codify the constitutional right to access contraception. In May, MoveOn members hosted more than 100 abortion-rights-themed election parties across the country.

Abortion is one of the cornerstone issues of MoveOn’s electoral campaign, and we’re working to vote out antiabortion extremists in the 2024 elections. One in eight voters of all ages say that abortion is the most important issue to them. Research shows that these voters are disproportionately Black voters, Democratic voters, women voters, and the youngest voting bloc—voters ages 18 to 29. MoveOn is helping to motivate voters, convince them that their vote matters, and get them to the polls to elect leaders who will protect our freedom to make decisions about our futures and our right to reproductive care.

MoveOn’s Member-Powered 2024 Election Program

MoveOn’s greatest strength is the grassroots people power of millions of MoveOn members. In this crucial election year, when our rights and freedoms are threatened more than ever by MAGA Republicans, MoveOn members are leading the charge to victory in November by getting out the vote early—and with great impact.

MoveOn’s analytics team has identified 1.5 million voters who live in key states and districts and who lean Democratic but may not vote consistently. MoveOn members are reaching out to these “surge” voters in three different ways: sending postcards, making phone calls, and knocking on their doors.

Members are engaging their friends, families, and communities in this effort by inviting them to informative and fun election parties. These parties are themed around long-term and rapid-response issues, including abortion rights, Pride Month, and Trump’s conviction. In just a few months, MoveOn members have hosted almost 300 parties, mailed 23,374 postcards, and called 57,624 voters.

To amplify our member-driven voter contact program, MoveOn is implementing paid communications and traditional rapid-response campaigning. That includes a powerful digital advertising campaign, leveraging a team of micro-influencers along with MoveOn’s own social media reach, and sharing MoveOn members’ meaningful and persuasive stories about why the election matters to them.

MoveOn’s supercharged 2024 election program is strategically designed to secure the presidency and a Democratic trifecta and to protect democracy from Trump and MAGA Republicans.

MoveOn members have chosen to endorse close to 30 progressive candidates for Congress so far this year. Our members decide which candidates will be endorsed by MoveOn by responding to surveys. MoveOn will endorse a candidate only if the majority of members in their district approve the endorsement.

In May, MoveOn members in Maryland endorsed Angela Alsobrooks in a crucial race to maintain the Democratic majority in the Senate. Alsobrooks reports that she is “glad to have MoveOn and its strong base of grassroots members alongside me in this fight.” Other endorsements include Representative Andy Kim in his Senate bid in New Jersey and Representative Summer Lee in her reelection bid in Pennsylvania.

For more than 25 years, MoveOn members have led the way—mobilizing in key moments and staying committed to long-term fights. We’ve taken on great challenges before and won. Together, we can do it again now.

“When I first heard about MoveOn, it just made sense to me that this was work that needed to be done—and supported. I’ve been a MoveOn member for more than 20 years and have felt very good about the priorities and strategies that MoveOn has taken. Even the name MoveOn. One of its major strengths is that it does move on, it doesn’t stay stuck. So many organizations are doing the same thing year after year. MoveOn amazes me because we don’t. We move on!”

– Bob R., MoveOn member and supporter

Protect LGBTQ+ Youth

Generation Rainbow was created by MoveOn as an online space for queer folks and allies to take action against Republican attacks that seek to erase LGBTQ+ people. MAGA Republicans have increased their bigoted attacks on LGBTQ+ rights—with more than 500 antigay and antitransgender laws introduced in states and in Congress this year alone. From bathroom bans to book bans to drag bans, they’ve scapegoated, bullied, and marginalized the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender folks. Together, we will vote them out and elect leaders who will protect the inherent human rights of all people. Learn more, take action, and check out the Pride merch collection at MoveOn.org/GenerationRainbow.

“As an organizer with MoveOn, I have been so inspired by the enthusiasm and compassion of members organizing during Pride Month to defend equality within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. MoveOn members are excited to take action.

Kathie in Beaverton, Oregon, is one of these amazing MoveOn members! She hosted an incredible phone-banking event, bringing together 12 volunteers to speak to voters. They had more than 200 conversations!

This is the activism we need in 2024 to counter hate and those who divide our country, and to defeat Donald Trump.”

MoveOn.org Members Vote to Endorse Democrat Doug Jones for Alabama Special Senate Election

Progressive Organization Calls on Democrats to Follow Jones’ Lead and Vigorously Contest House and Senate Seats in All Parts of the Country

ALABAMA —Alabama members of MoveOn.org Political Action voted overwhelmingly in support of Democratic candidate Doug Jones for the state’s special election for its U.S. Senate seat.  Jones earned the support of 98% of votes cast by MoveOn’s 43,000 members in Alabama.

In the endorsement vote, members praised Jones’ commitment to quality, affordable health care for all Alabamians, as well as his track record on civil rights and successful prosecution of the two members of the Ku Klux Klan responsible for the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

The Alabama election will take place December 12, 2017 to choose former Senator Jeff Sessions’ successor for the Senate term through January 2021. Sessions was confirmed by the Senate to serve as U.S. Attorney General on February 8, 2017. Luther Strange,  former Alabama Attorney General, serves as the current interim senator. Doug Jones, a former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, won the Democratic primary, while Strange and Roy Moore, a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama, advanced to a Republican primary runoff.

Here is what MoveOn members in Alabama had to say about Jones:

  • Attorney Doug Jones is a wonderful human being who seeks to bring peace back to the world through the law. He stands for justice when others refuse to. He fought to bring justice to the families of the historic 4 little girls in a time when people said to just forget them and let the old men (the killers) live out their days. I have so much respect for Doug and I know he will do wonders for our state with this position.  —LaQuita M. from Birmingham
  • While Strange and Moore are fighting over who loves Trump more, Doug Jones offers real, practical steps forward in improving education, health care, and the economy. His well-known role in prosecuting the KKK members responsible for the 16th Street Church bombings is sadly relevant today, and we need his commitment to social justice in the Trump era.  — Katie M. from Birmingham
  • He is a good, solid, honest man who has gone after the KKK for bombing the church in Birmingham, AL where little girls were killed and won. He is an incredible Prosecutor and does not need this US Senate job. He feels called to serve the people of AL where so much corruption exists at the State and Federal levels. —L. S. from Fairhope

“MoveOn members in Alabama have voted to endorse Doug Jones for Senate because of his long record as a champion for Alabama.  Unlike his Republican opponents, who have extremist agendas that will take Alabama back in time, Jones has been a long-standing advocate for health care and working families.  As U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, he took on white supremacist violence by successfully prosecuting the two members of the Ku Klux Klan responsible for the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing,” explained Matt Blizek, elections mobilization director for MoveOn.org. “National Democrats should follow Jones’ lead and vigorously contest congressional seats in all parts of the country.  MoveOn members in Alabama are fired up to help power Jones to victory this December.”

Virginia MoveOn Members Endorse Ralph Northam for Governor, Justin Fairfax for Lt. Governor

Progressive Group’s Members Also Endorse Diverse Slate of 11 Candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates

VIRGINIA — Virginia members of MoveOn.org Political Action have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Ralph Northam for Governor, Justin Fairfax for Lt. Governor, and 11 candidates for the House of Delegates including Danica Roem (VA-13), Chris Hurst (VA-12), Elizabeth Guzman (VA-31), Jennifer Carroll Foy (VA-2), Kathy Tran (VA-42), Lee Carter (VA-50), Hala Ayala (VA-51), Donte Tanner (VA-40), Karrie Delaney (VA-67), Kelly Fowler (VA-21), and David Reid (VA-32).
In the race for Governor, Ralph Northam won the endorsement with 97% in a vote of MoveOn.org’s more than 129,000 members in Virginia, with 98% of voting members favoring the endorsement of Justin Fairfax for Lt. Governor.  The 11 candidates being endorsed for the Virginia House of Delegates all won the support of more than 90% of voting MoveOn.org members in their respective districts.  In the endorsement vote, MoveOn members praised the slate of candidates for their progressive values and diversity.
The 2017 Virginia elections will be held on November 7, 2017.
Here’s what MoveOn members in Virginia had to say about Ralph Northam and Justin Fairfax:
Ralph Northam wants a Virginia that works for everyone. Virginia gave Ralph the opportunity to succeed. Whether it’s attending good public schools, starting a small business, or raising a family, Ralph wants every Virginian to have the same opportunities he’s had. — Marilyn K. from Haymarket
Northam is a strong, experienced candidate with a passion for healthcare and women’s rights, as well as a good track record on immigration and race. I trust him to protect our most vulnerable populations against the Trump agenda. — Lane B. from Arlington
Justin Fairfax has the experience and skills to be Lt. Governor, and hopefully a future Governor. He is an excellent communicator and is passionate about making Virginia a state where everyone has opportunities to thrive. Practical and hard working. — Sivigny V. from Burke
Here’s what MoveOn members in Virginia had to say about some of the House of Delegate candidates:
Danica Roem is a master of the issues and solutions that really matter to the people in her district. She is a tough worker, committed to working hard on behalf of her constituents. He opponent has accomplished little in the 20 years in the job. He is more interested in pursuing divisive social issues. — Peg F. from Gainesville
Elizabeth Guzman is a hard worker dedicated to fighting for her future constituents. She knows what it is like to work at minimum wage jobs to support family. Stands up for human rights, Black Lives Matter, LBGTQ rights. Fights for public education and health care. — Deanna B. from Dumfries
I’m tired of being represented by the extremely socially conservative Hugo. Donte Tanner would be a fantastic breath of fresh air. It’s time for a change in HD-40. — Eric A. from Clifton
Kathy Tran is an engaged citizen, wanting to represent all Virginians. She has a labor background, is interested in the school system, and has campaigned in the neighborhoods intensely, listening to voters’ concerns. — Claire R. from Springfield
“MoveOn members across the state have voted to endorse a wide range of candidates in Virginia who exemplify the progressive values and inclusive populism that MoveOn stands for—we believe Ralph Northam, Justin Fairfax, and each of the 11 endorsed candidates for the House of Delegates are best situated to improve the lives of all Virginians,” said Matt Blizek, elections mobilization director for MoveOn.org. “MoveOn members in Virginia are fired up to help power these candidates to victory this November. The 2018 wave starts this year in Virginia.”

The TV ads—MoveOn’s first in support of its call for Donald Trump’s impeachment, and airing during Sunday morning shows in key districts—call out Reps. Darrell Issa (CA), Scott Tipton (CO), Mike Coffman (CO), Jason Lewis (MN), and Don Bacon (NE) for refusing to hold Trump accountable following new major details showing collusion between top Trump campaign officials and Russia.

MoveOn.org Political Action is releasing a series of 30-second TV and digital ads, airing during Sunday public affairs shows in key districts, condemning five House Republicans who have remained silent following recent major revelations on apparent collusion between top Trump campaign officials and Russia.

The ads, titled “Crickets,” are in response to news this week from the New York Times that Donald Trump, Jr. attended a meeting with a Russian attorney with close ties to the Putin regime under the pretext of “information that would incriminate Hillary … and would be very useful to your father,” and was “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

Focusing on Reps. Darrell Issa (CA), Scott Tipton (CO), Mike Coffman (CO), Jason Lewis (MN), and Don Bacon (NE), the ads will run in the following markets: San Diego, CA; Denver; Grand Junction, CO; Colorado Springs, CO; Minneapolis; and Omaha.

Rep. Jason Lewis (MN): https://youtu.be/8aVRQ2UEZu4

“We are long past coincidence and simple excuses when it comes to the now numerous and documented ties between top Trump campaign officials and the Kremlin, and the latest information revealing potentially illegal communication between a presidential campaign and a foreign government should be deeply troubling to every member of Congress,” said Jo Comerford, campaign director of MoveOn.org Political Action. “Americans deserve to know the full details and extent of the Trump campaign’s apparent collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 election. Every member of Congress must demand answers, and join the growing call for Trump’s impeachment.”

MoveOn: Republicans Will Pay Political Price for Backing Trump’s Agenda, ACA Repeal

GEORGIA — Georgia members of MoveOn.org Political Action have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Jon Ossoff in the U.S. House special election in the state’s 6th District with 93% of votes cast in favor of backing Ossoff, praising Ossoff’s commitment to protecting the Affordable Care Act.

The election is to replace former Rep. Tom Price, who was tapped by Donald Trump to spearhead the repeal of the Affordable Care Act as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Ossoff has emerged as a strong, vocal supporter of the Affordable Care Act and is earning the support of progressives nationwide, including civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis.

“That this historically Republican district is now very competitive is another example of the powerful grassroots energy we’re seeing across the country resisting Trump’s agenda,” said Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action. “Ossoff is the sort of progressive champion—strong on both racial justice and economic justice—who can channel that resistance energy into progressive volunteers and votes, and Republicans have done him a big favor with their plans to repeal the ACA and kick tens of millions of people off of their health care. Republicans in Washington are attempting to take away health care from millions, including an estimated 30,000 in Georgia’s 6th. If Republicans move forward with repealing the ACA, they’ll pay a political price in districts like this one for supporting Trump’s dangerous agenda.”

MoveOn will be mobilizing its more than 15,000 members in Georgia’s 6th District to volunteer and vote for Ossoff and will be mobilizing progressives across the country to support the campaign through thousands of grassroots donations.

Here’s what a few MoveOn members in the district had to say about Ossoff:

“I believe Jon Ossoff is committed to protecting our environment, supporting civil rights and women’s rights, ensuring that health care coverage is available to all Americans, and representing Democratic values in Washington.” –Maggie T., Roswell

“He supports Planned Parenthood and women’s rights. He supports affordable healthcare. He has John Lewis’s endorsement which speaks volumes to me.” –Ginelle H., Roswell

“Jon Ossoff is a talented, principled anti-corruption investigator and a breath of fresh air for GA6, which has been complacent for too long with Tom Price’s leadership. Electing any Democrat – but particularly a young, progressive, articulate one – will send a message to Trump and the Republicans that the country, including areas they presume to be their base, is watching, angry, and ready, and that the Resistance is to be taken seriously.” –Kimberly L., Atlanta

“Jon O’s entire career has been about justice for the marginalized by standing up against crime and corruption. He has experience on the Hill. He has pledged to get affordable healthcare for all Americans, to protect seniors Medicare and Medicaid, to protect civil liberties, and women’s rights to reproductive freedom. He’s on the right side of the climate debate.” –Teresa L., Johns Creek

Fellow Democratic candidates Ron Slotin and Rebecca Quigg received 3.6% and 1.9% of votes cast, respectively, and Ragin Edwards earned less than 1% of votes. Republican candidates Karen Handel, Amy Kremer, and Mohammad Ali Bhuiyan all received less than 1% of votes.

MoveOn.org Political Action represents the collective will of MoveOn’s members at the ballot box by helping to elect progressive candidates.

** 86% of Votes Cast by MoveOn Members in California to Endorse Kamala Harris for U.S. Senate **

CALIFORNIA — California members of MoveOn.org Political Action have voted to endorse progressive champion Kamala Harris in the state’s U.S. Senate race with 86% of votes cast in favor of backing Harris.

Harris is running for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer. MoveOn has more than 625,000 members in California.

As California’s Attorney General, Harris made history with her 2010 election as the first woman, African American and Asian American attorney general. She has made waves throughout her career from her early days with the Alameda County District Attorney’s office and serving as District Attorney for San Francisco.  The New York Times Magazine called Harris as a “Top Cop” in the era of Black Lives Matter as she works to reform criminal justice from an unusual peak.

“MoveOn members are mobilizing nationwide to ensure Donald Trump never steps foot in the White House – and show that Americans clearly reject his politics of hate – while helping to elect Democrats like Kamala Harris and advance progressive policies,” said Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action.

Here’s what a few MoveOn members in the state had to say about Harris:

“I have been a fan of hers since she ran for State A.G. I’m very proud of the way she has gone after corporations like ExxonMobil. She understands that crime doesn’t happen in a vacuum and that locking everyone up doesn’t fix the underlying problems.” – Eric H. from Lake Forest, CA

“She has a history of making positive, solid decisions in the past as Attorney General.”– Laura P. from Chatsworth, CA

“She has proven her ability and strong progressive credentials on many issues, from reforms to the criminal justice system to standing up to the federal government and the banks to get a better deal for California during the mortgage crisis. I have met her and spoken with her and really trust her ethics and long term commitment to social justice and issues affecting women and people of color.” – Kathryn R. from Napa, CA

20160817_MoveOn_Endorsements_California

The endorsement comes the same day that MoveOn.org launched a “Take Back the Senate” effort, with MoveOn members in five states also voting to endorse Ann Kirkpatrick (Arizona), Maggie Hassan (New Hampshire), Michael Bennet (Colorado), Deborah Ross (North Carolina), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada), and Katie McGinty (Pennsylvania). Earlier this year, MoveOn members voted to endorse progressive diplomacy champions Tammy Duckworth (Illinois}, Russ Feingold (Wisconsin), and Ted Strickland (Ohio) in their respective Senate races.

In addition to “Take Back the Senate” endorsements, MoveOn members have also endorsed House candidates Mike Honda (California 17th), Pramila Jayapal (Washington 7th), and Zephyr Teachout (New York 19th); and Kim Foxx for Cook County State’s Attorney (Illinois).

In the 2014 election cycle, MoveOn members made over 6.7 million phone calls for endorsed candidates. MoveOn members have also raised millions of dollars—including more than $1 million for Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s Senate race in Massachusetts in 2012 and more than $1.2 million for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign in 2016—mobilized volunteers, and run ads in support of endorsed candidates across the country.

MoveOn.org Political Action represents the collective will of MoveOn’s members at the ballot box by helping to elect progressive candidates.

Members of MoveOn.org Political Action in six states have voted to endorse Senate candidates Ann Kirkpatrick (Arizona), Sen. Michael Bennet (Colorado), Maggie Hassan (New Hampshire), Deborah Ross (North Carolina), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada), and Katie McGinty (Pennsylvania) as part of an effort to elect a Democratic majority in the Senate this fall.

The endorsements come as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump continues to drag down incumbent Republicans and GOP hopefuls with his politics of hate, racism, misogyny, Islamophobia, and authoritarianism.

The endorsements are part of MoveOn’s United Against Hate campaign to defeat Donald Trump and the politics of racism, hatred, sexism and authoritarianism and elect a Democratic-controlled Senate this fall.

Earlier this year, MoveOn members also voted to endorse progressive diplomacy champions Tammy Duckworth (Illinois}, Russ Feingold (Wisconsin), and Ted Strickland (Ohio) in their respective Senate races.

“MoveOn members are mobilizing nationwide to ensure Donald Trump never steps foot in the White House – and show that Americans clearly reject his politics of hate – while helping to elect Democrats who can advance progressive policies in Congress,” said Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action. “Bolstered by leading progressive voices like Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders, MoveOn members will help take back the Senate this fall and continue to fight for progressive change at all levels of government.”

The results of the MoveOn membership votes follow:

• Ann Kirkpatrick, 94% of votes cast by Arizona MoveOn members. Kirkpatrick is challenging Sen. John McCain, who has continued to say he will support Trump despite his relentless attacks against the Gold Star family of Humayun Khan, a U.S. soldier who died in Iraq. See more on this endorsement here.

• Michael Bennet, 64% of votes cast by Colorado MoveOn members. Bennet is an incumbent facing Republican challenger Darryl Glenn, who has continued to support Trump despite his and disrespect towards the family of a fallen soldier, a federal judge, and other minority groups across America. See more on this endorsement here.

• Maggie Hassan, 90% of votes cast by New Hampshire MoveOn members. Hassan is challenging Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte, who continues to support Donald Trump despite being critical of his relentless attacks against the Gold Star family of Humayun Khan, a U.S. soldier who died in Iraq, and his proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States. See more on this endorsement here.

• Deborah Ross, 95% of votes cast by North Carolina MoveOn members. Ross is challenging Republican Sen. Richard Burr, who has continued to support Trump despite the presidential candidate’s repeated attacks on military families and comments Trump made in North Carolina that seemed to suggest violence toward Hillary Clinton, among other offensive attacks. See more on this endorsement here.

• Catherine Cortez Masto, 70% of votes cast by Nevada MoveOn members. Cortez Masto is running for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Harry Reid and would be the first Latino woman elected to the Senate. She faces Republican Joe Heck, who continues to support Trump despite the presidential candidate’s repeated attacks on military families, immigrants, and other minority groups. See more on this endorsement here.

• Katie McGinty, 94% of votes cast by Pennsylvania MoveOn members. McGinty is challenging Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, who has refused to say whether he’ll endorse Trump despite the presidential candidate’s repeated attacks on military families, immigrants, and other minority groups. See more on this endorsement here.

In recent weeks, Trump has continued to fuel speculation that his tanking campaign — rooted in bigotry and hatred, and causing dozens of leading Republican officials to renounce his candidacy — is impacting down-ticket races and could cost the Republican Party their majority in Congress. 538 reports that Trump’s presidential bid “could cost the party the Senate,” and top Republican strategists expressed fears of an “electoral bloodbath” this year to CNN.

In addition to “Take Back the Senate” endorsements, MoveOn members have also endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Kamala Harris (California); House candidates Mike Honda (California 17th), Pramila Jayapal (Washington 7th), and Zephyr Teachout (New York 19th); and Kim Foxx for Cook County State’s Attorney (Illinois).

Nationwide, MoveOn members voted to launch a multi-million dollar United Against Hate campaign to stop Donald Trump and keep him out of the White House and ensure the country rejects his hateful and dangerous rhetoric.

MoveOn.org Political Action represents the collective will of MoveOn’s members at the ballot box by helping to elect progressive candidates.
