Virginia MoveOn Members Endorse Ralph Northam for Governor, Justin Fairfax for Lt. Governor

Progressive Group’s Members Also Endorse Diverse Slate of 11 Candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates

VIRGINIA — Virginia members of MoveOn.org Political Action have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Ralph Northam for Governor, Justin Fairfax for Lt. Governor, and 11 candidates for the House of Delegates including Danica Roem (VA-13), Chris Hurst (VA-12), Elizabeth Guzman (VA-31), Jennifer Carroll Foy (VA-2), Kathy Tran (VA-42), Lee Carter (VA-50), Hala Ayala (VA-51), Donte Tanner (VA-40), Karrie Delaney (VA-67), Kelly Fowler (VA-21), and David Reid (VA-32).
In the race for Governor, Ralph Northam won the endorsement with 97% in a vote of MoveOn.org’s more than 129,000 members in Virginia, with 98% of voting members favoring the endorsement of Justin Fairfax for Lt. Governor.  The 11 candidates being endorsed for the Virginia House of Delegates all won the support of more than 90% of voting MoveOn.org members in their respective districts.  In the endorsement vote, MoveOn members praised the slate of candidates for their progressive values and diversity.
The 2017 Virginia elections will be held on November 7, 2017.
Here’s what MoveOn members in Virginia had to say about Ralph Northam and Justin Fairfax:
Ralph Northam wants a Virginia that works for everyone. Virginia gave Ralph the opportunity to succeed. Whether it’s attending good public schools, starting a small business, or raising a family, Ralph wants every Virginian to have the same opportunities he’s had. — Marilyn K. from Haymarket
Northam is a strong, experienced candidate with a passion for healthcare and women’s rights, as well as a good track record on immigration and race. I trust him to protect our most vulnerable populations against the Trump agenda. — Lane B. from Arlington
Justin Fairfax has the experience and skills to be Lt. Governor, and hopefully a future Governor. He is an excellent communicator and is passionate about making Virginia a state where everyone has opportunities to thrive. Practical and hard working. — Sivigny V. from Burke
Here’s what MoveOn members in Virginia had to say about some of the House of Delegate candidates:
Danica Roem is a master of the issues and solutions that really matter to the people in her district. She is a tough worker, committed to working hard on behalf of her constituents. He opponent has accomplished little in the 20 years in the job. He is more interested in pursuing divisive social issues. — Peg F. from Gainesville
Elizabeth Guzman is a hard worker dedicated to fighting for her future constituents. She knows what it is like to work at minimum wage jobs to support family. Stands up for human rights, Black Lives Matter, LBGTQ rights. Fights for public education and health care. — Deanna B. from Dumfries
I’m tired of being represented by the extremely socially conservative Hugo. Donte Tanner would be a fantastic breath of fresh air. It’s time for a change in HD-40. — Eric A. from Clifton
Kathy Tran is an engaged citizen, wanting to represent all Virginians. She has a labor background, is interested in the school system, and has campaigned in the neighborhoods intensely, listening to voters’ concerns. — Claire R. from Springfield
“MoveOn members across the state have voted to endorse a wide range of candidates in Virginia who exemplify the progressive values and inclusive populism that MoveOn stands for—we believe Ralph Northam, Justin Fairfax, and each of the 11 endorsed candidates for the House of Delegates are best situated to improve the lives of all Virginians,” said Matt Blizek, elections mobilization director for MoveOn.org. “MoveOn members in Virginia are fired up to help power these candidates to victory this November. The 2018 wave starts this year in Virginia.”

MoveOn.org Political Action represents the collective will of MoveOn’s members at the ballot box by helping to elect progressive candidates.
