Sunday night, MoveOn members came together in solidarity with democracy-loving Americans across the nation and against the looming threat of Project 2025.

The stakes have never been higher. The dangerous policies of Project 2025 threaten our freedoms: banning abortion and contraceptives, reversing progress on climate change, slashing Social Security and Medicare, gutting public education, firing civil servants, and more.

If you missed the powerful livestream, don’t worry—you can still catch all the energy from our special guests like activist Mark Ruffalo, Wilmer Valderrama, MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting, and many more:

  • National Director Maurice Mitchell, Working Families Party
  • Drucilla Tigner, Planned Parenthood Texas
  • Claude Cummings Jr., President of the Communications Workers of America
  • James Curbeam, Chairman of the Teamsters National Black Caucus
  • Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream

Watch the full recording this week at MoveOn.org/live to hear more from us and Ruffalo about:

  • How Project 2025 is the consolidation of the authoritarian right, but also how we have defeated Trump and his agenda before and we can do it again.
  • How Project 2025 will impact bodily autonomy, climate, labor, and immigration.
  • Why Ruffalo is voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and why he thinks folks should vote for her too.

Ready to take action?

Sign up today to make an impact, because with the polls so close in battleground states, every conversation with a voter counts! MoveOn’s incredible analytics team has found the exact voters we need to talk to, ones who support Harris-Walz but may not vote this year without a nudge from us. Together, we can protect our future and block Project 2025.

In 2022, we used this tactic to turn out more than 50,000 voters. This November, we aim to double that, and we need your help.

Your efforts will directly impact the outcome of this election. We’ll keep you updated on the next two calls in this GOTV rally series, happening on Sundays, so you can stay engaged as we bring this fight to the finish.

Vice President Harris is starting to lay out her vision for the economy, and her agenda includes a $6,000 tax credit for parents of newborns

The impact of this could be major—it would lift millions of children out of poverty and provide a needed helping hand to millions of families.

What Is a Tax Credit?

A tax credit is a portion of money that reduces the total taxes owed to the government.

It’s essentially a discount on taxes and can help taxpayers get extra money back on their tax return.

Which Parents Would Qualify for the Support?

Under the policy, parents with a newborn child during the tax year would qualify for a $6,000 tax credit. For example, parents who welcomed a new baby in 2025 would get the benefit for that year.

Harris also plans on building on the success of Democrats’ 2021 child tax credit, which gave a $3,000-$3,600 tax credit for parents who meet income thresholds.

That historic investment instantly cut child poverty to a record low of 5.2%. Under the plan, more than 60 million children benefited as their families received monthly payments. These payments provided major relief, helping cover the costs of expenses like rent, food, and other necessities.

Her proposed tax credit builds on the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan, which made historic investments that instantly cut child poverty to a record low of 5.2%.

Under the plan, more than 60 million children benefited as their families received monthly payments. These payments provided major relief, helping cover the costs of expenses like rent, food, and other necessities.

“$6,000, for the first year of a child’s life … The return on that investment, in terms of what that will do and what it will pay for, will be tremendous. We’ve seen it when we did it in the first year of our administration. It reduced child poverty by over 50%.”Kamala Harris on the potential impact of the expanded CTC

Kamala Harris understands that investing resources into kids and families in need is an investment in our future

Economic assistance programs for families can lead to better educational outcomes, more financial stability, improved mental health, and a stronger economy.

When families don’t have to worry about how they’re going to put food on the table, they can have a better quality of life.

A Harris-Walz administration could help ease economic stress for millions of families and significantly lower child poverty.

Together, we can stand up for families by electing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, true champions for justice who will lead us toward a brighter future for everyone.

Over the last several months, MoveOn has worked with Robert Reich to break down some of the solutions to the challenges we face in taking back our economy–from making work family-friendly, to creating Medicare for all, to ending mass incarceration. The videos we’ve made together have earned 8 million views–the start of something big.

Our teach-ins will allow MoveOn members to have in-depth discussions focused on a few of Robert’s videos, while thinking together about what we can and should do to extend the reach of his game-changing ideas.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

The best shot we’ve got at saving our broken health care system is to expand Medicare for all Americans.

But first, we have to make something very clear: Medicare critics are wrong. They say that Medicare is a problem. In fact,Medicare is more efficient than private health insurance. It’s the solution.

Please watch and share The Medicare Solution to spread the word about what we can and must do to secure Medicarefor all.

The Medicare Solution is the latest video in the “Big Picture” series I’m working on with MoveOn.

Here’s the bottom line: Allowing all Americans to buy into Medicare through the exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act would strengthen Medicare and improve American health care, saving all of us money while boosting health outcomes. If you’re like me and you’re ready to reject partisan lies and tackle rising health care costs head-on, please watch and share TheMedicare Solution now.

Thanks for all you do.

The Big Picture

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Here’s a big-picture idea: instead of investing in dirty fuels, let’s start charging polluters for poisoning our skies and then invest the revenue so that it benefits everyone.

Every ton of carbon that’s released into the atmosphere costs our nation between $40 and $100, and we release millions tons of it every year.1,2 Businesses don’t pay that cost. They pass it along to the rest of us—in the form of more extreme weather and all the costs to our economy and health resulting from it. What’s worse, we’ve actually invested more than $6 trillion in fossil fuels since 2007.3 Yikes!

Watch Make Polluters Pay to see what would happen if our nation divested from carbon polluters, made the polluters pay a price to pollute, and then collected the money.

MakePollutersPay
Make Polluters Pay is the latest in the “Big Picture” series I’m working on with MoveOn. And MoveOn members will campaign together on the ideas that we’re all most excited about.

The Big Picture

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

To prevent the rise of a new aristocracy, we need to raise the estate tax—a tax on inherited wealth. And we need to do it now.

The richest 1 percent of Americans hold 42 percent of our nation’s wealth.1 We haven’t seen this concentration of wealth since the Gilded Age of the late 1800s. Raising the estate tax on the wealthiest Americans is one way to fight back against growing inequality.

Yet some lawmakers in Congress actually want to eliminate the tax on inherited wealth.

Well, that’s just crazy.   What if Congress restored the estate tax to the level it was in the late 1990s? Watch Raise the Estate Tax to see how much revenue that would generate, and what that new revenue stream could fund.

Raise the Estate Tax is the latest in the “Big Picture” series I’m working on with MoveOn. And MoveOn members will campaign together on the ideas that we’re all most excited about.

If you believe we need to tackle growing inequality—and we need to do it now—you won’t want to miss watching and sharing this video.

Thanks for all you do.

Groups point to the presidential race’s focus on income inequality and populist progressives’ increasing power as key accomplishments.

Read More: Why We’re Suspending the “Run Warren Run” Campaign

Six months after launching a major campaign to encourage Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) to run for president, the groups behind the Run Warren Run effort announced today that they will suspend their participation in the draft effort on Monday, June 8 after delivering a petition with 365,000 signatures asking Sen. Warren to run.

MoveOn.org Political Action and Democracy for America launched the Run Warren Run campaign in December 2014 with a commitment to invest at least $1.25 million after supermajorities of both groups’ members voted in support. Over the following six months, hundreds of thousands of Americans, the Boston Globe, the New York Working Families Party, prominent cultural figures, and elected officials and grassroots leaders in Iowa and New Hampshire joined the call for Sen. Warren to run. So too did dozens of nationally prominent progressive leaders including Van Jones, Larry Cohen, Zephyr Teachout, Annie Leonard, and Lawrence Lessig, who headlined a Run Warren Run event in New York in April.

On June 8, Run Warren Run supporters will deliver to Sen. Warren’s Washington, D.C., office a petition with more than 365,000 signatures asking Sen. Warren to enter the presidential race. The groups will then rest their case and suspend their draft effort, pivoting their focus to working alongside Sen. Warren and other progressive populists on issue fights like defeating Fast Track negotiating authority for the job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

Since its launch, the Run Warren Run campaign has:

  • Signed up more than 365,000 Americans who believe Sen. Warren’s vision and track record would make her a great candidate;
  • Opened field offices in Iowa (Des Moines, Cedar Rapids) and New Hampshire (Manchester), hired field organizers in both states, andbuilt a network of local, grassroots leaders in these key early states committed to encouraging Sen. Warren to run;
  • Recruited more than 60 state legislators and local party leaders from Iowa and New Hampshire to join the Run Warren Run effort;
  • Held more than 400 events, including rallies, house parties, teach-ins, honk-and-waves, and other events in nearly every state;
  • Been endorsed by dozens of prominent organizational leaders, elected officials, celebrities, and other progressives;
  • Generated coverage in thousands of news stories elevating Sen. Warren’s voice and demonstrating a groundswell of grassroots support for her leadership—setting the stage for the presidential race and changing the dynamics of important debates in Washington.

“The Run Warren Run campaign has changed the conversation by showing that Americans are hungry for Elizabeth Warren’s agenda—an agenda that rejects the rigged status quo in Washington and puts working and middle-class Americans over corporate interests,” said Ilya Sheyman, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action. “We’ve assembled a grassroots army and demonstrated the substantial support Sen. Warren could expect if she were to enter the race. Now it’s time to suspend our active draft efforts and pivot to standing alongside Sen. Warren on the big fights ahead, starting with stopping Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership.”

“Even without her in the race, Elizabeth Warren and the Run Warren Run campaign she inspired have already transformed the 2016 presidential election by focusing every single Democratic candidate on combatting our country’s income inequality crisis,” said Charles Chamberlain, executive director of Democracy for America. “We still think there’s plenty of time for Sen. Warren to change her mind, but now that we’ve shown that she has the support she would need to mount a winning a campaign, we’re excited to take the grassroots juggernaut we’ve built with our members and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Warren in the battles ahead.”

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

There is only one way to truly tame Wall Street, so that everyday Americans like you and me don’t end up losing our jobs or our savings or our homes.

You won’t see this solution on mainstream TV. Please watch and share it now.

This is the fourth idea in our series, “The Big Picture: Ten Ideas to Save the Economy.” And while it may seem like a big, crazy idea to the Washington beltway crowd, it’s actually totally reasonable—and we’ve done it before.

If you want to make it real, I encourage you to watch and share the video today—because MoveOn will be launching campaigns on the ideas in this series that win the most shares from members like you.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich

P.S. In case you missed them, once you’ve watched Tame Wall Street, be sure to check out the timely Fight for $15, Help Families Work, and Expand Social Security videos, which you can access through the website.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Flat wages and the end of pensions have left millions of Americans facing a retirement crisis. Already, nearly half of our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents would live in poverty if it weren’t for Social Security.

There is a simple solution, and it starts with defending Social Security from the right wing’s lies. That’s exactly what I do in the third video of the ten-part Big Picture series, and I need your help spreading the word.

The corporate media won’t cover this. I need you to watch and share Expand Social Security now:

In the coming weeks, MoveOn and I will bring you seven more commonsense ideas that have the power to make our economy work for everyone. We’ll be relying on you to tell us which ideas you like most by sharing them with your friends and family.

MoveOn will launch full-blown campaigns—in solidarity with organizations doing important work every day—on the ideas that members like you are excited about and share with your friends and family. So make sure to watch and vote—by sharing—to help us get these ideas in front of millions of Americans!

Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,

A decent nation pays people a living wage. A strong nation makes sure people can earn a living and still take care of their families. If you agree, then I need your help.

Today MoveOn and I are launching an ambitious new media project, “The Big Picture: 10 Ideas to Save the Economy,” with two new videos: Fight for 15 and Helping Working Families. In less than 3 minutes each, I debunk myths and make the case for progressive ideas that you won’t see on TV.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll bring you more commonsense ideas that could make our economy work for everyone. I’ll be relying on you to tell us which ideas you like most by sharing them with your friends.

I hope you’ll take a moment to watch and share. Once all of the videos are out, MoveOn will commit to launching full-blown campaigns on the most-shared ideas, so make sure to vote–by sharing!

Right now, we’re in the middle of great debate over the future direction of the Democratic Party — and the future prosperity of our nation. If the only ideas we discuss are the ones that have the approval of the corporate media, we’re in a whole heap of trouble.

The more people we can inform and persuade by sharing these videos, the easier it will be to campaign in earnest for these ideas in the months to come. By sharing, you’re not only spreading ideas, you’re telling us which ideas will resonate in your community and are worth fighting for aggressively.

But we don’t have FOX News in our corner—so we’ll rely on people-powered media to spread our vision for the country. That means you, hitting “share,” on these videos right now and helping us put it in front of millions of viewers. Remember we’ve gone viral before!

Thanks,

Robert Reich

Walmart employs hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country. The majority of those workers make minimum wage—as Walmart executives are making BILLIONS. Our friends at OUR Walmart have been fighting for a living wage by starting petitions, staging protests, and organizing to fight for their rights.

Last week, Walmart workers won a big victory: Walmart announced that they will be raising their wages so that, soon, no worker will make less than $10 per hour. While this is a huge step, we still have a long way to go. But one thing is clear: when you fight for your rights, you win. Congratulations, Walmart workers!

Check out what Emily wells, a leader of OUR Walmart, had to say:

“We are so proud that by standing together we won raises for 500,000 Walmart workers, whose families desperately need better pay and regular hours from the company we make billions for. We know that this wouldn’t have happen without our work to stand together with hundreds of thousands of supporters to change the country’s largest employer. The company is addressing the very issues that we have been raising about the low pay and erratic scheduling, and acknowledging how many of us are being paid less than $10 an hour, and many workers like me, are not getting the hours we need.”

“Especially without a guarantee of getting regular hours, this announcement still falls short of what American workers need to support our families.  With $16 billion in profits and $150 billion in wealth for the owners, Walmart can afford to provide the good jobs that Americans need–and that means $15 an hour, full-time, consistent hours and respect for our hard work.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, January 9, 2015

In advance of his upcoming State of the Union address, President Obama is set to unveil a plan today at Pellissippi State Community College in Tennessee that would make two years of community college free for students. The proposal could benefit roughly 9 million students each year and save full-time community college students $3,800 in tuition per year on average.

Anna Galland, executive director of MoveOn.org Civic Action, praised President Obama today for the proposal:

“President Obama’s plan to make two years of community college available to any hardworking American can help create a more globally competitive workforce and address our nation’s student debt crisis by creating more affordable options.

This is a big deal. Not only is this exactly the kind of bold action we need to expand opportunity and build a fairer economy—it has bipartisan support. It’s crucial that members of Congress work together with the White House on this proposal so millions of Americans can afford to learn new skills, continue their education, or gain the knowledge they need to pursue a new career. Just as we appreciate Senator Elizabeth Warren’s leadership in addressing the massive student debt crisis facing existing borrowers, we are encouraged by and support the President’s focus on ensuring current and future students can achieve an affordable degree.”

The community college proposal builds on President Obama’s record of addressing higher education issues, including a recent expansion of programs that allow student loan borrowers to benefit from lower interest rates.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 10, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC — MoveOn Civic Action’s Executive Director, Anna Galland, called today on Democrats in Congress to reject the $1.1 trillion federal spending bill proposed yesterday, stating:

“This spending bill has been corrupted by Wall Street banks that are actively working to undermine rules that currently prevent them from wrecking the economy with speculative derivatives trades. Citigroup lobbyists reportedly wrote the part of the bill that would gut these important protections — which were put in place after the 2008 financial crisis. The legislation raises the risk of more taxpayer-funded bailouts for the big banks. It is unacceptable in its current form and must be defeated.

Americans saw what happens when financial institutions, deemed too-big-to-fail, gamble with funds backed by the government. Our families still carry the residual burden of taxpayer-funded bank bailouts.

Wall Street gave $25 million to Congress during the midterm elections. This bill proves that was money well spent. But Congress doesn’t answer to big banks like Citigroup, JP Morgan, and Bank of America. Congress answers to us, the American people. And it must deliver a clean spending bill without further delay.”
